The detection was made on an unfiltered exposure with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope on Aug 3.093UT during searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. The new object is located at: RA 01h 17m 40.68s DEC +43 38' 38.9" (2000), which is approximately 10.2"E and 16.3"S of the centre of UGC 826. Nothing is present at this position on Tom's images of 2007 Dec 12 and 2008 Feb 12 (limiting mag 19.5) nor on the Digitised Sky Survey Plates from 1989-10-02 (limiting red mag 20.5), and 1992-10-19 (limiting blue mag 21.0). Confirmation was obtained on Aug 4.024UT with the object then of magnitude 17.9. The designation and discovery were announced on CBET 1459 which also contained news of SN 2008en and 2008eo thus THREE supernovae found by the same observer. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 116th supernova PKS 1749+096 Stefan Karge, Taunus Observatory, Germany and Guy Hurst, Basingstoke, England independently report their detection of a further outburst of this blazer ( = OT 081 = 4C 09.57). This is the second brightest optical state ever recorded after the super-outburst in 2007 April-May when the object reached 14.11C. 2008 Jul 21.062, 15.80 (Bradford Robotic [BRT],Hurst); Jul 24.017, 15.4 (Taunus, Karge); Jul 29.945UT, 14.68C (Taunus, Karge); 29.997UT, 14.75 (BRT, Hurst); Jul 31.015, 14.57C (BRT, Karge), 31.022, 14.72 (BRT, Hurst).
