It was quickly established that the latter galaxy and UGC 11428 were one and the same. The CBAT supernova checker was not working but a check of the 'recent supernovae listing' confirmed the object was supernova 2008ex. The independent detection of the same object was a surprise given the length of time since discovery and Ron's latest estimate of magnitude 16.5V (unfiltered using a 0.4-m f/5 Newtonian and Starlight Xpress SXV HP CCD) which suggests it has brightened since discovery. The editor also obtained photometry back on 2008 Aug 23.01UT in response to the original report with a magnitude 17.0 (unfiltered CCD with Bradford Robotic). Continued photometry was abandoned due to a very rich area around the galaxy with possible contamination of photometric measures. At the time V. Stanishev described it as a young type-II supernova. Further observations are urgently required given the unusual nature of the light curve. The object is at: SN 2008 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag.
