SUPERNOVA 2009Y IN NGC 5728 Discovery by Ralph Martin, Perth of a possible supernova (CBET 1684): SN 2009 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2009Y Feb 1.77 14 42 23.85 -17 14 48.4 16 9 "E,24.6"N An independent discovery was made by C. Griffith et. al., University of California, on unfiltered KAIT images taken in the course of the Lick Observatory Supernova Search. SUPERNOVA 2009Z IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY Discovery by LOSS of a possible supernova (CBET 1685): SN 2009 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Stritzinger etl., on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, obtained spectra on Feb. 8.1-8.2 UT with the 6.5-m Magellan II (Clay) telescope (+ LDSS3). A spectrum of 2009aa appears to be that of a young type-Ia supernova. With the aid of SNID, they find an excellent match to SN 2002er at one week before maximum. Guy M Hurst
