The object, of approximately magnitude 15.5-16.0, was recorded on a number of unfiltered images (limiting magnitude 18.8) around 2009 Oct 8.8312UT using a 0.4-m f/5 Newtonian reflector and Starlight Xpress CCD. It is located at: RA 20h 26m 26.03s DEC +02 54' 32.1" (2000) Offsets from galaxy: 5.1" E 3.4" S The object was not visible on the Digitised Sky Survey POSS II Blue plate (1990-07-19) or the POSS II Red plate (1990-08-19) or listed on CBAT's Minor Planet Checker. In a further message Ron reports that he has obtained a confirmatory image on Oct 10.747UT. David Briggs, Havant, England has also obtained an image with a 0.60-m f/4.7 Newtonian reflector on Oct 8.925UT showing the possible supernova. The object was designated Supernova 2009jr on CBET 1964 issued today (October 11). Congratulations to Ron on the discovery of his 21st supernova. Guy M Hurst
