The measured position by Nishimura is: RA 18h 43m 44s DEC -7 37' 01" (2000). Nishimura relays that nothing is visible at this position on two frames taken on 2009 Nov. 7.377 using same instrumentation (limiting magnitude 11.5), and there is no star on his survey frames taken in 2008. Nakano has measured mag 8.8 and position end figures 45s.65, 36'41".5 (uncertainty 2".0) from the image obtained by Nishimua where the limiting magnitude was about 12. An e-mail was received at TAHQ from Ernesto Guido and Giovanni Sostero (based in Italy): Following an appeal from the Central Bureau about a possible nova in Scutum, on 2009 November 09.08 we performed some follow-up observations of this object through a 0.25-m, f/3,4 reflector + CCD, from GRAS Observatory at Mayhill. We can confirm the presence of an optical counterpart with unfiltered CCD magnitude about 8.5 (UCAC-2 Catalogue reference stars) at coordinates: RA 18 43m 45.57s DEC -07 36' 42.0" (2000) On our blog the confirmation image and an animation using a DSS archive plate can be found: http://bit.ly/4Edrho or http://remanzacco.blogspot.com/2009/11/nova-scuti-2009.html Guy M Hurst
