The object was first recorded on an unfiltered image of 2009 Dec 6.7503UT obtained with a 0.3-m f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and Starlight Xpress CCD. It was subsequently recorded on six frames that evening with a limiting magnitude of 17.5. It is located at: RA 01h 00m 55.88s DEC +47 41' 07.7" (2000) and offset from the nucleus by 3.9"E and 11.7"N Ron adds that the object was not visible on the Digitised Sky Survey POSS Blue plate (1989 Aug 31)or the POSS Red plate (1989 Aug 13) nor listed on CBAT's Minor Planet Checker. Ron confirmed the object on Dec 7.786UT as also did David Briggs of England on an exposure of Dec 6.750UT using the Hampshire Astronomical Group's 0.40-m f/4.5 reflector at Clanfield, yielding mag 16.3 and position end figures 55.89s, 07.2". Following an earlier appeal from the Central Bureau, D. Rich of Hampden, ME, U.S.A. reports that his unfiltered CCD image (limiting mag about 18.8) taken on Dec. 7.12 with a 0.41-m reflector yields magnitudes V = 16.7 and R = 16.3 with position end figures 55.91s, 07.5" The object was designated Supernova 2009mf and announced on CBET 2067. Congratulations to Ron Arbour on the discovery of his 22nd supernova. Guy M Hurst
