He reported the position as: RA 22h 57m 49.57s DEC -08 22' 27.9" (2000). This may be an outburst of a star SDSS J225749.54-082228.7, which is listed in some catalogues (USNO A2.0, USNO B1.0, GSC 2.3 and others) as a star of magnitude about 20. Like as KT Eri (=Nova Eri 2009), the amplitude of seven magnitudes is rather large for a dwarf nova, but somewhat small for a rapid classical nova. In a later message Yamaoka reports the object was fainter than 14.2 and not recorded on Jan 2.456UT. On Jan 10.366, it was 13.0 (unfiltered). Guy M Hurst
