They used five 2-s unfiltered CCD frames (limiting magnitude 17.0) taken around Apr 23.791 with a Meade 200R 0.40-m f/9.8 reflector (+ SBIG STL1001E camera) to measure the following precise position for the variable: RA 17h 53m 02.98s DEC -28 12' 19.4" (2000). Nothing is visible at this position on their earlier images of Apr. 2.83 (limiting mag 12.9) and 16.75 (limiting mag 13.1), nor on the Digitised Sky Survey from a red plate taken on 1996 Sept. 12 (limiting mag 17.5). A USNO-B1.0-catalogue star of red mag 17.4 has position end figures 03s.11, 19".0. A confirming image by the discoverers with the 0.40-m reflector on Apr 24.673 yields mag 11.6 and position end figures 03s.00, 19".3. SUPERNOVA 2010aj IN MCG -01-32-35 Discovery by J. Newton and T.
