The discovery was made with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope on an unfiltered CCD exposure. Confirmation was subsequently obtained with the Sierra Stars 0.61-m Cassegrain telescope on Nov 9.544UT. The new object is located at: RA 08h 16m 49.66s DEC +60 29' 46.1" (2000), which is approximately 2.6"E and 11.2"N of the centre of the host galaxy. Nothing is present at this position on Tom's images of 2010 Jan 17 and Mar 4 (limiting mag 19.5) or on Digitised Sky Survey Plates from 1989-12-21 (limiting red mag 20.5), and 1990-01-01 (limiting blue mag 21.0). P. Challis and R. Kirshner, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA); and N. Smith, University of Arizona, on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, report on CBET 2548 that spectroscopic observation of 2010js shows the symmetric Balmer lines with widths of approximately 4000 km/s (FWZI) seen in type-IIn supernovae; the redshift for this object in UGC 4294 is z = 0.039. The object was announced on CBET 2546 on Nov 14 and designated SN 2010js. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 138th supernova. Guy M Hurst
