BRIAN MARSDEN QUIZ
The regular Christmas Quiz has been named in memory of the late Dr. 
Brian Marsden who in the early years of this competition regularly 
submitted some of the earliest answers which he compiled largely from 
his amazing memory of past events.

Entry is open to anyone, whether subscribers to 'The Astronomer' or not.

1. Which comet was depicted on labels of the world's oldest champagne 
found at the bottom of the sea in 2010, who discovered the comet and 
when?

2. Which 92 year old observatory has recently been declared a national 
historic monument and on which mountain is it located?

3. What is Enki Catena and when can it/they be found?

4. Who did Brian Marsden visit in 1959 and 1993 and what did Nancy 
Marsden suggest on the second visit?

5. Who proposed a constellation of Lilium and when?

6. Who at Apple recently reconstructed an ancient astronomical device 
using Lego and which object was involved?

7. Who provided TA with magnitude estimates of Uranus in 1969 suggesting 
it was brighter than predicted in the 1969 BAA Handbook?

8. Which method was proposed by H. Feijth (1970) to overcome the 
difficulty of variable star estimates with very close comparisons?

9. Who became director of the Tartu Observatory, Estonia and 
subsequently received the RAS Gold Medal in 1975?

10. What makes up the 'False Cross' and why is it so named?

The first all-correct entry received, as judged by the Editor whose 
decision is final, will receive a new free year's subscription to TA via 
monthly pdf or an extension of an existing sub (paper or pdf) by 12 
months. Alternatively you may donate a year's sub to someone currently 
not a subscriber.

If there is no all-correct entry received by 2011 Jan 20.0UT then the 
highest scorer may be judged the winner.
