THE ASTRONOMER AND BAA VSS JOINT MEETING, 2012 OCTOBER 13
As many of you will have heard on the grapevine, the annual meeting of 
'The Astronomer' for this year is taking place at our usual venue of St 
Mary's Church hall complex in Basingstoke on Saturday October 13.

This year our meeting celebrates the 100th anniversary of George 
Alcock's birth. In addition Roger Pickard has agreed with the Editor 
that this be a joint meeting with the Variable Star Section of the 
British Astronomical Association.

The editor will be giving a talk about the lifetime achievements of 
George Alcock but as usual several other talks are planned along the 
theme of the types of objects George studied over his observing career.

We regret the delay in this formal announcement caused by a number of 
factors including efforts to avoid meeting clashes with other major 
groups and the fact we have today only just had the final booking 
approval from the Rector of St Marys.

Further details of the event and booking arrangements will follow in due 
course. In the meantime please ensure this date is entered in your 
diary.
