It was discovered by Tom Boles, Coddenham, England during searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol, as an apparent supernova of mag 18.6 on unfiltered CCD images taken on 2011 Oct 20.78 and 21.96 with a 0.35-m reflector. The new object is located at: RA 18h 27m 00.86s DEC +72 50' 56.3" (2000), which is approximately 7.6" east and 10.6" north of the centre of PGC 61885. Nothing is present at this position on Tom's images of 2011 Apr 27 and Apr 03 (limiting mag 19.5) nor on Digitised Sky Survey Plates from 1993-08-12 (limiting red mag 20.5), and 1992-07-27 (limiting blue mag 21.0). The object was assigned a temporary designation of: PSN J18270086+7250563 Joseph Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia recorded it on 2011 Oct 21.17UT with 7 x 600 sec images using a clear filter. This astrometry: RA 18 27 00.86 Dec 72 50 56.5 Photometry: 18.7 +/-0.4C. This was the 148th supernova found by Tom Boles and we again extend congratulations. SUPERNOVA 2012cn IN MCG +11-15-28 This object's discovery by Tom Boles was announced on TA E-Circular 2823 and 2836. This was the 149th supernova found by Tom for which many congratulations.
