With a quiescent magnitude of 22.8V (Downes et al) this outburst amplitude would seem to indicate that GR Ori may be a recurrent nova. The object was discovered by H. Thiele, Hamburger Sternwarte, on plates of 1916 January. (AN 202 (1916) 213). The object is located at: RA 05h 21m 35.32s DEC +01 10'12.2" (2000) and confirmation of the outburst is needed as well as follow-up observations. Guy M Hurst
