The object was also recorded on several subsequent images to a limiting unfiltered magnitude of about 18.8. A pre-discovery image was found taken on 2014 Oct 31.83UT at the same position but about 0.5 mag. fainter. Precise position: 17h 14m 38.28s +43° 40' 51.7" (2000) Offsets from galaxy: 1" W 3" S The object was not visible on the Digitised Sky Survey POSS II Blue plate (1990July 22) or the POSS II Red plate (1991 June 14). SUPERNOVA IN NGC 4080 G. Terreran, INAF Osservatorio Astronomico di Padnova, reports on ATEL 6641 that the Asiago Transient Classification Program relays the spectroscopic classification of the object in NGC 4080 (see TA E-circular 3036) as a type Ib at 3 weeks phase. >From the distance modulus m-M=28.74 (Virgo + GA + Shapley) and the magnitude at discovery, we deduce an absolute magnitude around -14.8 mag.
