Itagaki, Japan, reports discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 15.6) on an unfiltered CCD frame (limiting mag 19.0) taken on 2014 Sept. 2.57UT using a 0.50-m f/6 reflector. The new object is located at: RA 00h 59m 47.83s DEC -07d 34' 18.6" (2000.0), 32.3" west and 20.2" north of the galaxy's nucleus. The discovery image is at: http://www.k-itagaki.jp/images/ngc337.jpg The position of 2014cx is within a couple of arcseconds of that of the type-II supernova 2011dq. N. Elias-Rosa et. al., Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova report that an optical spectrogram was obtained on 2014 Sept. 3.33UT with the European Southern Observatory's New Technology Telescope at La Silla under the Public ESO Spectroscopic Survey for Transient Objects. Adopting for the host galaxy a recession velocity of 1550 km/s, as derived from the narrow emission of the underlying H II region, a good match is found with type-II supernovae shortly after explosion. An expansion velocity of about 15000 km/s is derived from the minimum of the broad H I 656-nm line. Patrick Schmeer, Germany, confirms the outburst on Nov 22.760UT at magnitude 12.1 using a 0.203-m SCT. Denis Buczynski (Scotland) also imaged the variable on Nov 22 at 20h35mUT. Mike Gainsford Burbage, England, recording his first decent night for nearly a week, also confirmed the outburst at magnitude 12.4 on Nov 23.203UT. Guy M Hurst
