W. Zheng: spectrum Sept 3 with the Shane 3-m reflector it is a type-IIP
supernova perhaps a month after explosion.

Y. Beletsky: spectrum Sept. 10 with LDSS3 on the 6.5-m Magellan II (Clay)
telescope at Las Campanas Observatory.  Inspection of the spectrum shows
that 2014dc is a young type-II supernova.
Best match with SN 2004et 2-3 days before maximum.

S. T. Hodgkin: spectrum with the 2.5-m Isaac Newton Telescope at La Palma on
Sept.4.17 UT. Good match found to a type-Ia around one month after maximum
light.

consistent with the redshift of the apparent host galaxy, NGC 1448
