It was discovered at V=13.6 in "Brutus" images taken on 2015 July 18.48, but not present (V>17.3) in images taken on 2015 July 14.45. At the position of the transient, Vizier reports a match to a g=18.4 SDSS source, with a fairly red SDSS colour of u-g=0.87. Object RA (J2000) DEC (J2000) Disc. UT Date V mag ASASSN-15mu 22:52:33.11 +10:20:25.0 2015 Jly 18.48 13.6 Brian Skiff adds in VSNET: For ASASSN-15mu the near-IR 2MASS observations give J = 14.55, K = 14.15 (thus intermediate J-K colour = 0.4), whereas the deeper UKIDSS data show J = 15.85, K = 14.99, thus J-K = 0.86, typical of an M-dwarf. Apparently the 2MASS data were also taken with the system in an elevated state above quiescence. Guy M Hurst
