NOVA SCUTI 1989
Despite the note on E347 that the nova is apparently past maximum,
several observers report a brightening to about magnitude 9.5
during the last few days. A chart and preliminary sequence are
now available on e-mail request.

P/SCHWASSMANN-WACHMANN 1
J.-C.Merlin reports that several French observers have noted this
comet in outburst. The latest available estimate is:
1989 Sept 28.00UT, m1=12.9.  (S.Garro, Grenoble, France)

SOLAR ACTIVITY
N.James telephones a report that there was a large magnetic
disturbance on the Sun at around 09.00UT this morning and suggests
the sky is monitored for possible auroral activity tonight.
