Bob Evans in Australia noted it was near magnitude 14 on 1997 Jan 3.7UT. Tonny Vanmunster in Belgium also recorded it on 1996 Dec 27.99UT at 14.2 using an unfiltered CCD. This object clearly needs close monitoring as it provides an excellent chance to obtain a light curve in the early stages of the supernova's development. Guy M Hurst
