The announcement in IAUC 7280 follows: S. Jha, P. Garnavich, P. Challis, and R. Kirshner, Harvard- Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrum of SN 1999eg, taken by P. Berlind on Oct. 13.4 UT with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST spectrograph), shows it to be a type-II supernova near maximum light. The spectrum exhibits a blue continuum with P-Cyg Balmer lines. Cross-correlation of the host galaxy spectrum with an absorption-line template yields a recession velocity of 6570 +/- 50 km/s for IC 1861. The supernova expansion velocity, measured using the H-beta line profile, is 7200 km/s. Steve Foulkes advises the the images he secured (cf E1454) to confirm the discovery were obtained on 1999 Oct 11.868UT ( 3 mins duration) and Oct 11.887UT (5 mins) with the 0.26-m LX200 and ST7 CCD. We offer our sincere congratulations to Mark on this his fifth supernova discovery to date! Guy M Hurst
