Chassagne, Ste. Clotilde, Ile de Reunion, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.0) on CCD images taken with an automated 0.30-m telescope on Nov. 7.822 and 8.722 UT. SN 2000ek is located at at R.A. = 2h10m30s.04, Decl. = -53o49'28".0 (2000), which is 22" west and 44" north of the centre of ESO 153-G27. Nothing is visible at this location on an image taken by Chassagne on Sept. 28 (limiting mag 18), and he adds that the new object is not present on a U.K. Schmidt plate (via the Digital Sky Survey) taken on 1975 Nov. 11 (limiting mag 22). IAUC 7518 LEONID METEORS 2000 M. Gyssens, International Meteor Organization, reports that there may have been several peaks in terms of the intensity of Leonid meteors on Nov. 17 and 18, as seen in preliminary data contributed by numerous observers worldwide. There may have been minor peaks (ZHR about 100) near Nov. 17.25 and 17.33 UT, before activity began rising noticeably around Nov. 18.0. Two significant peaks, during Nov. 18.1-18.2 (ZHR about 200-300) and about 18.30 +/- 0.01 (ZHR about 400), appear to confirm the predictions by McNaught and Asher (1999, WGN 27, 85), which are based on the theory that the observed peaks represent debris ejected from comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle eight and four revolutions ago, respectively. IAUC 7522 SUPERNOVA 2000el IN NGC 7290 T. Puckett, Mountain Town, GA; and D. George, Ottawa, ON, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.5) on an unfiltered CCD frame (limiting mag 20.3) taken with the Puckett Observatory 0.60-m automated supernova patrol telescope on Nov.21.03 UT. The candidate is located R.A. = 22h28m26s.62, Decl. = +17o08'51".2 (2000), which is 1".5 east of the centre of NGC 7290. The new object was also present on an unfiltered CCD frame taken by P. Boltwood, Stittsville, ON, with a 0.35-m reflector on Nov. 24.05. SN 2000el does not appear on unfiltered images taken by Puckett during June 1-Oct. 14, and it does not appear on Palomar Sky Survey images taken on 1995 July 30 (limiting mag about 21.0) and on 1992 Sept. 1 (limiting mag about 21.0). IAUC 7523 SUPERNOVAE 2000em, 2000en, 2000eo, 2000ep, 2000eq L.-G. Strolger, University of Michigan and Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory (CTIO), reports the discovery by the Nearby Galaxies Supernova Search team of several supernovae with the Kitt Peak 0.9-m telescope (+ Mosaic camera; limiting mag R about 21). Search frames were compared to template frames obtained a year or more previously. SN 2000 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl.
