It will take place in Peterborough Cathedral starting at noon. I have also been asked to collate the names of those who will be attending. Could you please e-mail me as soon as possible, and preferably by Jan 28 to advise if you are able to attend. SUPERNOVA 2001L IN MCG -01-30-11 A. Friedman, W. D. Li, and R. Chornock, University of California at Berkeley, report the discovery by LOTOSS of a supernova (mag about 15.4) on an unfiltered image taken on Jan. 18.4 UT (and confirmed at mag about 15.7 on an earlier image taken on 2000 Dec. 31.4) with the 0.8-m Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope. SN 2001L is located at: R.A. = 11h36m48s.83, Decl. = -8 35'07".0 (2000), which is 0".3 east and 3".8 north of the nucleus of MCG -01-30-11. A KAIT image taken on 2000 Dec. 23.4 showed nothing at this position (limiting mag about 19.0). IAUC 7566 (extract) POTENTIAL VIRUS, ASTROMAX? On 2001 January 20 the editor received an e-mail containing an executable file only (with no text) called 'DMCAHBDM.EXE' of approximately 27K. The sender's details were 'masked' but the software on the TA PC did record the originating machine as astromax.com. Research shows this is also used for distribution of Sky and Telescope bulletins. No previous bulletin mentioned distribution of this program which was deleted without apparent harm. Since I am aware a large number of astronomers receive messages from S&T I would advise caution in running this file. I am awaiting a reply from them to an urgent e-mail enquiry sent last night. If anyone has news of this item please send me details. Guy M Hurst
