The initial detection was on 2005 January 15.141UT from unfiltered CCD images obtained with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. Confirmatory images were obtained on January 19.073UT. The new object is located at: RA 15h 53m 25.93s DEC +39 23' 08.1"(2000), which is approximately 5.1" east and 2.7" south of the centre of host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2004 June 21 and Sept 5 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not recorded on DSS II red (1991.272 limiting mag 21.0), blue plates (1988.370 limiting mag 20.5) The object has been designated supernova 2005L and announced on IAUC 8469. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 85th supernova. SUPERNOVA 2005K IN NGC 2923 Discovery by Trondal and Schwartz of a possible supernova (IAUC 8468): SN 2004 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Ganeshalingam, et. al., University of California, Berkeley, have reported on IAUC 8468 that inspection of CCD spectra obtained on 2005 Jan. 16UT with the Shane 3-m reflector at Lick Observatory, shows that the object is probably a supernova of type Ib, several weeks past maximum.
