Briggs reported on IAUC 8518 their discovery of a variable object (mag 16.0) on an unfiltered CCD frame taken with the 0.50-m automated supernova patrol telescope on 2005 Apr. 20.25 and 21.21UT. It is located at: RA 14h 54m 20.91s DEC +16 24' 23.8" (2000), 37"W and 184"N of the centre of IC 4516. Although absent from Puckett images of 2002 Feb 13 and 2003 Mar 15, there is a starlike object on POSS of 1991 May 16 and 1993 Mar. 23 at about magnitude 18-19. Hitoshi Yamaoka, Japan, has suggested that this object may be the possible quasar, 3C 306.
