------------------------------------------------------------------- THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 2852 2012 August 11 16:00 ut Ed:Guy M Hurst, 16,Westminster Close, Kempshott Rise, Basingstoke, Hants, RG22 4PP,England.Telephone/FAX(01256)471074Int:+441256471074 INTERNET: GUY@TAHQ.DEMON.CO.UK Backup: gmh@wdcc1.bnsc.rl.ac.uk WORLD WIDE WEB http://www.theastronomer.org PSN J06265101+5905026 David Grennan reports I have detected a suspected new supernova on an image of galaxy IC2166/UGC3463 (PGC19064). (Galaxy coordinates 06 26 55.2 +59 04 41.0). Astrometry places the suspected new object at 2012 08 22.05056 06 26 51.01 +59 05 02.6 Mag.+16.2 (LM Mag of frame +19.8). All co-ordinates given are J2000 and magnitudes are unfiltered. This gives me offsets of 32.3"(West) and 21.6"(North) of the core of IC2166. The image was taken by myself at Raheny Observatory, Dublin, Ireland (MPC Code J41). The instrument used was a 0.36-m f/4.9 Schmidt Cassegrain + CCD. Exposure 10x60 seconds stacked. There is no trace of this suspect on a previous survey image taken by me on 2011 Dec 04 (L.M. +19.5) and on the POSS-II plates. The MPC Minor planet checker reports no object within 15' of this location. I further checked the Recent Supernova page, Transient Object Confirmation Page and the Retired TOCP cross reference pages. There is no mention of this object on any of these. I have requested follow up observations from colleagues and of course I will get a second night observation myself as soon as possible. I have submitted this same report to CBAT. I can, of course, provide images in support of my submission, if requested. David Grennan. Raheny Observatory Dublin (MPC #J41) Tom Boles Coddenham reports: I made two confirmation images of David's suspect. I make astrometry: 22.11975 06 26 50.99 59 05 02.1 mag 16.4v Denis Buczynski
